10 & 11 Dec. 2011 10am-4pm The ever popular Paper Clay Hand building Workshop!  Paper Clay is a dynamic clay medium to work with as it allows a lot more freedom than conventional clay.  You will learn how to make your own paper clay and about its properties as a clay body.  We will then work on individual projects using paper clay.  Suitable for beginners and improvers.

Reinventing Jugs and Vases Workshop.  
Not all houses are square and not all jugs and vases are round!  In this hand building workshop we will take a fresh look at these everyday piece and came up some new designs and ideas.  We will pay particular attention to surface decoration.  Everyone  will create their own unique piece.  Suitable for beginners and improvers.

24 & 25 March 2012 Decorating Techniques in Clay 1.  In workshop 1 our emphasis will be on two main areas of decoration.  Firstly, Resists such as Chilac,Wax, Paper and Latex.  Secondly, we will take an indepth look at Decorating Slips - Slip trailing, Marbling, Stenciling, Spotting, Feathering, Sponging etc.  Whether you're a beginner or improver this workshop is an opportunity to concentrate on these two dynamic forms of decoration and learn to apply a professional finish to your own work.

After using bird seeds (mixed media) to create texture in a piece she opened the bag after a few weeks to discover the seeds had grow!  After cutting the grass the piece was completed and ended up as a beautiful lamp.

Clay as a Canvas: Wall Pieces in Clay - we created wall based sculpural pieces with a particular emphasis on surface decoration.  Students were encouraged to use decorating slips / mixed media / glass and to experiment with glazes by adding additional materials to existing glazes.  Suitable for beginners and improvers. Liquid Paper Clay Workshop - Paper Clay is a dynamic clay medium to work with as it allows a lot more freedom than conventional clay.  Using both liquid and plastic clay to achieve dramatic results.  By experimenting with  liquid paper clay & incorporating it with traditional construction methods lead to interesting forms!  Suitable for beginners and improvers JUNE09
Liquid Clay & Fibre - taking a sculptural approach we construct pieces in plaster moulds using  fibre (mop-head strings!) soaked in liquid clay.  The fibres are layered on top of each other to build up the piece.  After firing the fibre burns away leaves the clay shell.  This technique leads to very interesting textures and forms.  Suitable for beginners and improvers. 3 Day Summer Sculpture Workshop (Intermediate to advanced level) Feel the fear and do it anyway in clay! 3 day intensive course, each student created a sculpture from off-cuts of clay which was inspired by a natural form. A challenging workshop but very worthwhile.  We also looked at current professional ceramic practices and the creative process from concept to finished.  Demonstrations also featured on glazing & coiling.  Congrats to Margaret on her Heron, Siobhain on her flying Swan, Margaret D on her Seascape, Helen & Helena on their Rocky Mountains and to Annie on her Mushroom.  We had a lot of fun! 2 Day Beginners Summer Workshop - An intensive course aimed at beginners to clay.  We learned all the basic construction methods like Press Moulds, Coiling, Soft Slabbing & Slab Building.  We  also learned about slips, glazes and various other decorating methods.  We also introduced you to current professional ceramic practices and the creative process from concept to finished form. Coil Built Sculpture Workshop.  In this workshop we created an object which was sculptural  in nature using coiling as a method of construction.  Suitable for beginners and improvers. [Coiling - In this technique, pottery is formed out of sausage-like lengths of clay.  The piece is built up in layers of coils into the required shape and height.  Coiling has been a principle method in pottery making since ancient times.] OCT 09
